With today's mind-set of spending less and getting more, consider speaking as an inexpensive marketing tool. Not only does it position you as an expert, but, as Sarah Victory--a speaker, coach and the author of Double Your Business in One Year or Less (Northland Business Press)--says, "Speaking is the ultimate free sample. Your audience believes that if you can afford to give away a few ideas, imagine how much more you must know.

Speaking generates huge returns as long as the audience is in a position to buy. Before you get in front of the members of your target audience, figure out what key issues they face and how your talk can help solve them. It's perfectly acceptable to briefly reference your business on the podium, but only as it relates to how you solved a similar problem. Blatantly self-promoting speeches always backfire. Instead, make your talk about what you can do for the audience.

And don't forget the title of your speech--it's what sells your presentation. "Audiences buy a solution, a result or an experience," says Victory. Clever usually doesn't sell. Compare "Full Frontal Selling" as a title to "How to Get More Sales in Less Time." After 10 or so speeches, you will start seeing good results. Marketing consultant and speaker Elizabeth Goodgold is the author of Duh! Marketing Awards.

You can’t help but pay attention to Sarah Victory. She projects a warmth, enthusiasm and confidence that her listener can sense and respond to even over the phone. Obviously, she loves people, and she loves what she does. And what she does is advise CEO’s, celebrities, politicians, sports stars, authors and every day people like you and me on how to succeed in business.

Victory began her career as a Broadway actress/producer/director and was successful at it. One day, a friend of hers, who was involved in business, called and asked her to aid her “team” to succeed. “I said to her over the phone, ‘what do you want me to say? I don’t do things like that,’” she remembers. Eventually, Victory caved to her friend’s pressure, flew from New York to Los Angeles, conducted a motivational workshop for “several hundred people,” she says. “The team went from #48 to #3. I was then asked to work with other teams within the organization.”

That experience changed her life. She went on to do promotional work for famous motivational leaders like Jim Rohn, Danielle Kennedy and seminars with speakers such as Tony Robbins. She learned from the best and created The Victory Company.

“My favorite saying is: If you’re happy and you’re profitable, clap your hands,” she exclaims. Victory has travelled the world conducting motivational workshops, lectures and seminars to boost business and industry and has written several motivational books and audio programs, including “Life Victories: Do Something Brave Every Day,” and “How to Double Your Network Marketing Business FAST!”

In part 2 of my interview, Victory gives solid advice on how to succeed in your business.

“I love working with people who want to change the world,” says Sarah Victory, internationally renowned business advisor to CEO's, celebrities, best-selling authors, politicians and every day folk. “My best advice for the mompreneur is, first of all, to figure out what you do the best that no one else can do. For a mompreneur, passion is key. The next thing is to get organized by figuring out how you are going to accomplish your goal. The biggest mistake that many entrepreneurs make is that they aren’t prepared for success.”

Victory advises to create a support system, which doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. An example would be to seek out a neighborhood teenager to act as a mother’s helper or sitter when you need to work. “Find someone to pick up your cleaning,” she advises. “Pay people on an ‘as needed’ basis and stay in contact with them to let them know you may be needing their help. All of us need support, and it's best to be prepared.”

Victory says there is really only one formula for success, which she calls the 30+2=Success for You Formula. She advises to read at least one piece of self-improvement literature for 30 minutes every day. This could be a book, an article or even the newspaper. Then, make sure to contact or meet at least 2 NEW people every day in your business field. For example, if your business involves lawyers, be where they go, i.e. the Bar Association, a local watering hole near a large firm, etc. You can only gain valuable contacts, which ultimately leads to success.
